WHAT IS SHAMANISM?

Shamanism is humanity's oldest spiritual tradition, dating back some 30,000 years to the first signs of human consciousness. It is not a religion, but a spiritual technique.

It is a visionary technique, which may be considered a form of prayer or meditation. It involves visualizing a journey to our guardian spirits, in order to ask for their help with healing and problem-solving.

Thus it works for people of all varieties of religious belief or intellectual opinions about the nature of reality. As the common source and heritage of all cultures, it also adapts well to the modern multicultural society of our world today.

While everyone may practice shamanic techniques for everyday health and guidance, the word "shaman" is usually reserved for those among us who pursue such a practice to an advanced level. They are recognized by that title only after gradually earning reputations as effective spiritual healers and counselors, who act responsibly in service to their communities.
